HBO's The Last of Us TV adaptation has been met with scores of praise from fans and critics alike since its debut earlier this month. Its most recent episode has been lauded as a particular highlight not just for the series, but for TV in general.
And its success, according to one Activision Blizzard executive, is surely all the proof the FTC needs to give Microsoft's buyout of the company the all clear. After all, Sony is clearly doing ok.In a fairly lengthy Twitter thread, Activision Blizzard's chief communications officer Lulu Cheng Meservey moved to alert the FTC to the most recent episode of The Last of Us, calling the show a"true blockbuster".
In fact, she went on to say that"Sony's talent and IP across gaming, TV, movies, and music are formidable and truly impressive".The Activision exec used all of this evidence to call out the FTC for attempting to block Microsoft's buyout of Activision Blizzard. "The FTC has opposed the Microsoft - Activision Blizzard deal on the grounds that Microsoft could 'suppress competition' from rival consoles by leveraging Activision games.
"It sounds like there's some worry that Sony's position as market leader could be jeopardised by this deal.""In gaming, Sony is 'the first of us' - and they will be just fine without the FTC's protection."— did you catch last night’s episode of The Last of Us? It was incredible. If you haven’t already, you should check it out.
Well obviously.
Lol yeah, how could a company with over $1.8Trillion ever hope to compete with a successful TV show based on a successful game made by a company worth less than 10% of them? Gordon Ramsay is a great chef, so I should be able to buy every fast food chain on the planet.
Just make your own COD PlayStation please!!!
pretty funny when it is written, presented and read out loud.
The deal shouldn't go through due to Microsoft's incredible uptake of Office software
Victoria it’s a thought/opinion doesn’t make it, how you put it in bold letters SHIIITTTAKE. 🤷♂️
More proof that Activision 'execs' are only there because $$$$. In reality he's a nobody who knows nothing about the product he buys his mansions with. The deal should not go ahead, and that much is very obvious to anyone who isn't a blind fanboy. It's monopolistic in essence.
There are dozens of better reasons for the acquisition to be approved. This is a silly narrative but the bottom line is there's no reason for the deal to be blocked.
Apples and oranges
Why did i think this was a hard drive article?
The logic here is unfallible
Lol, that person should not be an exec.
Not even remotely related. People forget that Activision are desperate to be bought out because they’ll get lots of money. They don’t care if it ruins the industry in the process.
The difference is that Sony created the IP and produced the TV show. Microsoft wants to buy out a publisher and all of its IP.
Oh, cool.... Microsoft-Activision deal is OK because my dog ate my light switches and today is potatoes...
Not even remotely comparable
Hmm. Two very different things indeed. Success of a TV show is hardly any justification for monopolisation
Did the 'exec' saw Venom movies ?! lol
How is this person an executive at ABK? Unreal.
They say this as COD sales went through the roof before Christmas. Last of Us isn't gonna change anything.
