District police chief Assistant Commissioner Razali Ibrahim said based on a tip-off, a team of policemen and district Islamic Religious Department officers managed to apprehend the men, aged between 26 and 76.
Razali said all of them were picked up in the mosque’s compound area at 8.30pm, but some of them managed to escape during the raid. “We have received a lot of complaints that there were a number of senior citizens who were still performing prayers in congregation at the mosque. “We have issued several warning notices to the mosque management on this matter, but everything fell on deaf ears. This prompted us to launch a raid at the mosque again,” he said.
Razali said all of them were released on police bail today since most of them are senior citizen who have health issues; and the case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor .
