Melaka folk irked by silence on Deepavali bazaar

Former Gadek assemblyman K. Saminathan said Jalan Bendahara, which is known locally as “Malacca’s Little India”, would usually look resplendent with lights and decorations in the month leading up to Deepavali.

The Little India traders association is usually tasked with organising the Deepavali bazaar, which also features stage shows and other entertainments.However, this year, there has been no word on the bazaar. The small traders, who benefit most from the bazaar, are unsure who will be organising it and where to submit applications for stalls, said Saminathan.Not only has this not been done, but even some of the street lights are not working, he added.
