Johor govt: Bigger budget for fire dept needed for better equipment

Johor Housing, Communication and Multimedia Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said that having proper firefighting apparatus was important as he found that some equipment was inadequate when dealing with peat fires in particular. Dzulkefly was referring to the recent fire that engulfed 16 hectares of forest in Kampung Pekajang near Gelang Patah where firefighting work was hampered by the lack of proper equipment causing the blaze to last for several days.

“Yes, peat soil areas can be a fire risk during the hot season during the south-west monsoon. As such, the government will identify measures to obtain alternative water sources for the area.
