KOTA KINABALU: Dive instructor Ab Zainal Abdu, 30, who was killed by fish bombs alongside two China tourists during a dive in Semporna was most likely murder target.

Police, however, have yet to determine who the killers are, said Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass.

“Yes, he was most likely a murder target, but who is behind it and the motives are still unclear,” he said during a press conference when asked whether the July 5 incident was intentional. The two China nationals killed while diving with Ab Zainal in waters off Pulau Kalapuan were Zhao Zhong, 26, and Xu Yingjie, 26.

Asked whether the tourists were also targets, Zainin remarked that “bombs can’t see”.Post-mortem results revealed that the trio died from the blast as they suffered massive internal injuries but minor superficial injuries on their bodies. Their injuries include fractures to the skull, broken ribs, internal bleeding in their lungs, abdomen and chest while the main aorta was also torn.
