Lawyers for the privacy activist said that he was the genesis of the legal proceedings

Meta has argued against allowing privacy campaigner Max Schrems to be joined to its €1.2 billion case against the Data Protection Commission because the company claims it is not about him.

The tech platform said Schrems was “indistinguishable” from the hundreds of millions of other Facebook users affected by the transfer of data and that the whole point of the DPC having a separate inquiry “was to get away from complaint”. The DPC also disputed that Schrems was the “genesis” of the proceedings, with counsel telling the High Court that “matters were being investigated” prior to his landmark 2013 complaint.
