A member of An Garda Siochana has been arrested in connection to an investigation into a fatal hit and run, we can exclusively reveal.
Popular GAA coach Niall MacEneaney was struck by a vehicle - a private car that is registered to a serving garda who was off-duty at the time - and was left for dead in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, March 17 on the Rathmullen Road in Drogheda.The vehicle failed to remain at the scene and the off-duty garda under investigation has been suspended.
In a statement to this paper, GSOC said: “GSOC received a referral from An Garda Síochána on 17 March 2024, following a road traffic incident in Drogheda that took place in the early hours of the morning.“The matter is now under investigation by GSOC further to section 98 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005.“GSOC’s investigation remains ongoing. As such, no further comment will be made at this time.
