A Garda has been suspended following a hit-and-run that killed a well-known GAA coach just “60 seconds” from his home.
Sources say the officer, who was suspended yesterday, is suspected of driving a personal vehicle and striking Mr McEneaney – before allegedly leaving the scene.The off-duty garda and a vehicle were located after the badly injured body of the St Fechins GAA coach was recovered near the road. Describing the upset locally he added: “The parade was after going through Drogheda and was just ending when some friends of mine called to break the tragic news.Cllr Power added that Mr McEneaney would have been only metres from his house when he was struck. He added: “I would say a matter of 60 seconds from home.”
