Last Updated Tuesday, September 17, 2019 4:32PM EDTThat's a question Liberals and Conservatives tusseled over Tuesday in the ongoing federal election competition for the votes of middle-class families.
The duelling pitches underscore the differing ideological approaches taken by the parties on how best to woo voters. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer argued the Liberals were in fact adopting a Tory tone by expanding the CCB.The CCB sends parents a monthly cheque if their income is below a certain threshold. Under the previous Conservative government, there had been a similar program that saw all families -- regardless of income -- also receive a monthly payment.
But behind-the-scenes, Scheer's team was working furiously to explain why their parental benefit package was better then Trudeau's. They'd already come under criticism for calling it "tax free," as the benefits actually remain taxed. "You end up with a ripple effect -- not only are you saving the taxes on EI, but then the effective tax rate on all your other income also drops," Robson said.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also faced questions Tuesday about how his party will achieve its goals as he promised to build 500,000 new affordable homes across the country in 10 years, if elected.
This is all our money these guys are giving away! If your bank decided how to spend your money would you be cool with it?
Let’s set the record clear. They are not giving the working people money. They are deciding how much of your money you get too keep.
Leaders are still scarce these days.
They just love spending our tax dollars and making it look like they're doing us the favor. lol
Liar's club, haven't a clue just get in there we'll fix it later! !!
Day to day living costs. So eliminate the tax on a tax at the pump. It violates the law to start but govt won’t start the legal practice. Then a tax deduction of child expenses not a credit. Credits are useless. They sound great but make no different
How about just lower taxes for everyone
Pay for your own damn kids. My parents and their generation never got a single government handout.
IMHO, the opposite of whatever the PC’s have to offer would be best
Funny how parents are like kids asking parent government for an allowance to have things they can not afford. But hey, people love bribes lol. The minimum age for having kids should be 35. No exemptions.
Cash off Course.
Tax credits are best, they can be scaled appropriately this way.
Why doesn’t the Liberals disclose the cost of all their election promises? Could it be that we can’t afford all their campaign promises without significant tax hikes and/or further massive debt?
wouldn't math decide this? oh right, numbers don't lie, feelings do. which is why cutting taxes is supposed to bring plenty for all. (never does. no proof)
So in that article. The picture at the bottom is wrong. As it stands right now the liberals should be first. They are the party in power and not the PC. Did the PC party buy there way into first place, cause that’s not how it’s done. I thought the party had to be elected.
A country without a loser Trudeau is a Canadian win for natural born Canadians
