Carbon Tax,Fuel Costs,Trucking Companies

A lot is being written and spoken about the carbon tax increase effective April 1. Cases are being made that the average driver will spend an additional $400 annually on fuel because of the tax and will receive double that back from government in quarterly payments. Sounds good and can be convincing for those who are Liberal or fail to look at the much bigger picture. But for those of us who are not Liberal and can think for ourselves, the facts are a lot less convincing.Arguably, but supported by the facts, the carbon tax has added 3.5 per cent to the fuel costs of trucking companies. This increased cost has been passed on to its customers. This means that groceries delivered to grocery stores cost 3.5 per cent more. This cost is passed on to the consumers. The average family of four spends $16,000 annually on groceries and this means an additional cost of $560

Barley Risotto and Kimchi: A Culinary CrossroadsThank you to NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and his party for using the supply-and-confidence agreement to force the governing Liberals in making a start on the national pharmacare program. Contraception and diabetes medication will be free to all Canadians. Over time, the plan will include all drugs until the existing patchwork of prescription drug plans is replaced by universal single-payer public pharmacare. It is despicable in our wealthy country that many Canadians must stint on food, heat or face eviction so they can pay for necessary prescription drugs. It is even more despicable that others are dying or suffering because they couldn’t afford to treat illnesses that were once manageable simply because they lacked the money to pay for the drugs. We have been talking and writing about this issue since the 1960s. Thanks to the NDP, we’re finally seeing a concrete start
