A Coffs Harbour man, who falsely claimed to have COVID-19, has been fined $550 over an incident in which he deliberately coughed on a 71-year-old police employee.The court heard William West was on mood stabilisers and "wasn't himself" on the day of the prankThe prosecutor said West's actions were an act of "gratuitous cruelty"
"It's the case that it was never in reality a prank or a joke — it was in fact a serious crime," Mr Rodgers said. The filming of the incident and posting it on social media added to the seriousness of the offence, he added.William West pretended to have COVID-19 and coughed on a 71-year-old police worker.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Heidi Warren argued West had not been remorseful for his actions, and referred to video footage taken of him after his bail hearing in March and social media posts bragging about the incident.
Who made the judgement it was not a genuine coughing event. Not some low class policeman I hope.
