Why vaccine mandates must be a last resort | OPINION covid melbournelockdown VaccinePassports

I spoke in recent days with two women who feel strongly that they do not want the COVID-19 vaccination. One works in construction, the other as a teacher. Both are likely to get vaccinated – under duress – because they cannot afford to lose their jobs. The JobSeeker payment wouldn’t cover their rent.

I have had the first jab of Pfizer and am waiting for the second. I am happy to follow the medical evidence, which tells us that the health risks from COVID vaccination are extremely low, and the social benefits high. The vast majority of Australians appear to agree. We are on track to vaccinate 80 per cent of the population aged 16 and over by year’s end,But there’s a huge difference between vaccinating the willing and coercing the unwilling into vaccinations by threatening their livelihoods.

Overriding this autonomy with coercive threats to livelihood would need to meet a very high bar for justification. Health experts remain uncertain about what percentage of the population needs to be vaccinated to provide herd immunity. Some think it is impossible.. On the WHO advice alone, mandatory vaccinations would seem premature.

But parents can make more of a difference than they think. Meanwhile, children of the '70s who grew up sips of KB, are doing just fine. Didn't bother reading the article but I can safely assume there's something about racism in there as well....

Why Australia’s new $100 billion subs could be uselessThe $100 billion bill faces inevitable, massive blowouts. The 20-year delivery date is optimistic, and likely too late. Now a top academic has dropped a bomb on Australia’s nuclear submarine dreams – labelling them dinosaurs of the deep. Technology goes both ways, location and stealth, if they create better finding tech, they almost certainly will develop better cloaking, the story is a beat up😎 Who says it will take 20 years? I think you'll find we have subs in service well before then. Leasing or buying existing subs for starters. You claim AI tech will advance so much subs will become “transparent”. Guess what, sub tech will also advance. What a badly written article.

Why can’t you borrow as much to invest in shares as property?Property investing seems like a bet that we, as a society, will prove unable, over the longer term, to match our housing supply to our housing needs, hence pushing up prices.
