'We have to face the facts': Airline activity unlikely to return to pre-coronavirus levels anytime soonFinance Minister Mathias Cormann has admitted aviation was "one of the worst-hit sectors of the economy". "Airline businesses are clearly on the front line of the impact of the coronavirus crisis," Mr Cormann said.

"We do have to face the facts, over the foreseeable future the level of activity in that sector is going to be significantly less than what it was prior to the coronavirus crisis. "Qantas has made a decision to adjust its size in the context of what it expects likely activity and demand for its services to be." Mr Cormann agreed with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce it wasn't likely international travel would not resume until July 2021.
