US President Donald Trump says he 'doesn't feel the same' about the trade deal with China as relations between the two economic superpowers continue to deteriorate in the wake of COVID-19.

US President Donald Trump signalled a further deterioration of his relationship with China over the novel coronavirus, saying he has no interest in speaking to President Xi Jinping right now and going so far as to suggest he could even cut ties with the world's second largest economy.

Trump's pique extended to Xi, with whom the US president has said repeatedly he has a good relationship."But I just – right now I don't want to speak to him," Trump said in the interview, which was taped on Wednesday.Trump was asked about a Republican senator's suggestion that US visas be denied to Chinese students applying to study in fields related to national security, such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

The remark drew ridicule from Hu Xijin, editor in chief of China's influential Global Times tabloid, who referred to Trump's much-criticised comments last month about how COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, might be treated. Opponents of Trump have said that while China has much to answer for over the outbreak, he appears to be seeking to deflect attention from criticism over his response to the crisis.Scott Kennedy of Washington's Centre for Strategic and International Studies think tank called Trump's latest remarks "dangerous bravado."

" still hopes that economic and trade issues will not be politicised because that is not good for either side," the paper quoted Li Yong, deputy chairman of the Expert Committee of the China Association of International Trade, as saying.

We don’t need China .....China needs us! Quote ‘Australia is like the gum on China’s sole’ well if that’s the case they can fuck off use their own gas, vast land and produce! 😂

I could think of some things that need to be cut off with that orange drongo

Another Trump rhetoric to push a bigger trade deal after China ramped up US purchases. Maybe rhetorics do work.

and they could call in their loans realDonaldTrump

One’s a dicktator and one is from China

Look! Over there! What a ridiculous attempt to deflect attention from his utter failure to protect his country.

Needs a good smack in the head

Trump is a good player but fuckhead.

Someone needs to remind Trump that the US owes trillions of dollars to China. If they demanded their money back the US would be devastated for ever.

What a bloody ridiculous statement. USA already needs to import more than $500 billion worth of goods annually over what China needs to import from America. Cheap goods from China is what keeps them afloat and changing the relationship would seriously hurt USA’s economy.

Trump + Xi will be the best combination to destroy the world

Trump will fold and go crawling back to China as they will never come calling. Be careful what you wish for Trump CNN washingtonpost

Sanction them into oblivion

As it should... Who wants to work with a lying, stealing, bullying, aggressive regime. Hopefully the one good thing that comes from this horror is that people finally acknowledge, and stand up to, the elephant in the room.

The US is in debt to China for over a trillion dollars.

So this is going to benefit America how

Asia is the future economic leadership zone, we need to integrate ourselves in it, particularly our neighbours like Indonesia. The trick is bringing China in to a more democratic , humanitarian position. America is cooked, the trick there is preventing Trump from starting wars.

Lier, China still buy barley and beef from US

Yeah, you could - no more Make America Great caps and, and, and ...

No he couldn't. Not without destroying himself

Oh Magoo, you've done it again!

The buck always stops anywhere except with him.

Australia should cut ties with China, look how they crippled the world and they don’t give a sh**. All they do is threaten us for wanting an investigation. If they have nothing to hide what’s the problem? BoycottChina

These two arrogant nations are on a warpath. Australia should take a big step back, it would stupid to get involved in this.

Good! Fck china!

Trump has had enough and rightly so. Xi will come to the party soon enough.

Enjoy your $3000 phones.

do it!

Trump sends me crazy, Trump sends me crazeeeee, reeeeeeee.......

I feel a nativist election campaign coming up. Dig the moat a bit deeper and pull up the drawbridge. Looks like realDonaldTrump has learned and is about to build a strategy based on isolation.

That will destroy America.

Trump is dangerously unhinged. If he doesn’t start WWIII it will be a miracle.

He's not a well man.

Do it! Means jobs, growth and wealth for us, instead of insane red painted Nazis who only care about themselves and nobody else.

Australia 'caught in US-China crossfire' and 'there will be serious economic implications' | Sky News AustraliaThe Switzer Report founder Peter Switzer says now is the worst time to be caught up in escalating trade tensions with China. \n\n“Once the economy’s back on its feet, that’s when it’s time to get stuck into China, but at the moment we’re vulnerable,” he said. \n\n“Obviously there’s a simmering, potential trade war and it really didn’t start with us, but we’re being caught in the crossfire because we ganged up and supported Trump in asking for an objective inquiry into China’s behavior in relation to the virus. \n\n“Clearly China’s cheesed off in the fact that we’re supporting Donald Trump and there will be serious economic implications.' \n\nMr Switzer told Sky News “this is not the time” because Australia was staring down the possibility of a great depression, which he said the government was so far managing to avoid through stimulus measures. \n Business people should be made to disclose their China exposure before making such comments, my trust is wearing thin. Thx for the obvious advice. You mean at the beginning of a recession- depression were every $ counts. Duh!

US claims China-linked hackers targeting coronavirus research | Sky News AustraliaUS agencies have warned hackers linked to China have attempted to steal vital coronavirus research.\n\nIn the latest escalation of tensions between the US and China over the pandemic, the FBI and Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency said they were investigating the “targeting and compromise” of US research groups.\n\nThey also warned the hacking attempt could jeopardise the delivery of treatments. Jobless data shows US economic pain as Donald Trump eyes reopeningOver a third of US workers who lost jobs or saw their hours reduced because of the coronavirus pandemic will have trouble paying their bills, according to a survey. You don't need a survey to tell you this I think most debt will have to be forgiven in Australia (at least) where our debt per household is massive. If we want a country full of angry, sad, psychotic and depressed people, the government needs to make a plan. But even before the pandemic they had no ideas and no plans. At a guess this will apply to most countries around the world.

'Dangerous, damaging': China trade dispute triggers national divisionChina's economic retaliation for Australia's pursuit of a global coronavirus inquiry has triggered national division and a rebuke from business leaders. They are not our 'friend'. Friends don't bully. The west need to move away from reliance on that country. I believe majority of Australians won’t kowtow & sacrifice sovereignty to Communist China for money. It’s wake up call for Australia to rethink economy & reduce dependency on China. Trust me - China buys Aussie goods not bcoz of good relations. They buy bcoz they need to. China is using us and it’s time to stand up. They have proven to be an untrustworthy and unreliable partner
