Veterans Affairs Minister DarrenChesterMP has dismissed calls for a royal commission into the mental health and wellbeing of returning servicemen and women.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison told Sky News earlier this month he was “actively considering” ordering an inquiry following a meeting with the mothers of five men who took their own life following ADF service.

A petition – started by June Anne Finney whose son David died earlier this year – has been signed by more than 250,000 people.“I’m on the public record saying I don’t think a royal commission is the right way to go and my focus is on implementing all the changes that I’ve commissioned to do through the transformation program to see those improvements I can make on a daily basis,” the minister said.
