Academics from the University of Sydney’s school of education and social work have been asked to consider ways to reduce full time staff by up to 30 per cent | JordsBaker

Academics from the University of Sydney’s school of education and social work have been asked to consider ways to reduce full time staff by up to 30 per cent as the university braces for deeper financial woes due to COVID-19.

Sydney University is yet to reveal how continuing bans on international students due to COVID-19 will hit its bottom line next year. It will cover this year's $470 million hit with savings, but has warned of further difficulties ahead.Macquarie University announced voluntary redundancies earlier this week after revealing it expected to lose $150 million in overseas student revenue next year, and a further $200 million in 2022.

In her email to staff, Dr Hayes said the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences had asked heads of school to propose concrete "suggestions on how we might restructure to reduce by up to 30 per cent FTE while also setting ourselves up well to remain a leading arts and social sciences faculty."

JordsBaker easy abolish gender studies and quotas sack the vice chancellor allow free speech

JordsBaker Again the universities are playing politics and scare mongering. Why pick social work and education to cut 30% ? Because they think public outcry. Why not Law, or business studies or the top 10 uni bureaucrats ? No, because public wouldn't care. RitaPanahi RealMarkLatham

JordsBaker Maybe keep the staff and reduce the bloated management by 30%

JordsBaker Abolish the social work school.

JordsBaker LOL

JordsBaker Excellent news! Maybe they'll need to work for a living like the rest of us rather than preach PC bullshit.

JordsBaker Maybe don't pay a lecturer $130k a year 🙃

JaneCaro JordsBaker How about an education model that focuses on the outcomes of the local population, and international intake is the icing on the cake? What a wonderful world it could be!

JordsBaker Yeah good, they're useless

JordsBaker Sad times for uni staff. While no one could have foreseen the pandemic. Arguably, being heavily dependent on revenues from international students could have been avoided.

JordsBaker I’ve heard directly from some staff who are facing cuts of 50 to 60%.

JordsBaker Great to see! Cut even more.

JordsBaker That's the process for NSWEducation, so no surprises.

AFL, Sydney Swans condemn racist abuse of Elijah Taylor following COVID hub breachThe AFL and the Swans show their support for the 19-year-old, after he was the target of racist abuse on social media in the wake of his COVID-19 protocol breach. Well it's a possibility telling people relentlessly not to be racist you'll always trigger that small minded group to do the opposite of what you asked them not to do! psychologists might have a word for it! The AFL would’ve advised this 19 year old adult to post a social media statement in an attempt to get support from the community. The AFL are responsible for whatever comments followed. The social media world is not a sanitised domain. Poor advise by AFL.
