NSW police and health authorities are racing to track any possible spread of coronavirus from a security guard who caught it at a quarantine hotel amid fears it will herald a Melbourne-style outbreak. 9News

the guard had most likely been infected while working at the Marriott in Circular QuayIt's believed he contracted the disease from a returned traveller from the US, who was under quarantine.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said a security guard had likely been infected by a quarantined traveller in Sydney.Dr Chant said there was as yet no evidence of a breach and that she did not believe the guard had broken any rules, with the virus possibly passed to him through an intermediary.

Nonetheless, a thorough investigation is underway as close contacts are tested and police scour CCTV trying to track how the outbreak occurred.
