Former prime minister TurnbullMalcolm has lashed his former colleagues over climate policy, describing their comments to a net zero emissions target as 'false and misleading'.

Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has lashed his former colleagues over climate policy, describing their comments to a net zero emissions target as "false and misleading".

At a meeting of energy executives on Tuesday, Mr Turnbull warned of a "catastrophic" future if Australia did not move towards a carbon neutral emissions target by 2050. The policy, which has now been adopted by Labor, has been heavily criticised by Nationals MPs who argued it would put the country's agriculture industry at risk. Image: News Corp Australia

Waleed Aly 'wants Australia to learn from Germany on climate change': Kenny | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says Channel Ten's The Project,” is “unashamedly woke, pitching its program and what it calls news at the young, and presumably, the ill-informed'. \n\nMr Kenny referenced a recent report by Waleed Aly where the host presented Germany “as an exemplar on climate change action and sensible, efficient energy policies”. \n\nIn comparison, Australia was contrasted as a country that isn’t “doing anything” on the issue of climate change. \n\n“The Project claimed Germany is showing Australia the way in the here and now,” he said. \n\nMr Kenny referenced recently released reports that “shows German electricity prices are the highest of the major world economies at 34c a kilowatt hour”. \n\nHe argued this is 41 per cent higher than Australia at 24 cents per kilowatt hour and 126 per cent higher than the United States. \n\n“Waleed Aly and The Project say we should be emulating the wonderful climate action success story of Germany'. \n\n“Is that what The Project is arguing for, or do they really think they can just pump out fake news and no one will ever check out the actual facts?' Mr Kenny said. \n\nImage: Getty \n Chris Kenny saying someone is uninformed. Rupert come on old man. That's so funny 😂. No 'climate clause' in future UK, EU trade deals: govt | Sky News AustraliaTrade Minister Simon Birmingham has dismissed speculation that trade deals with the EU and the UK could be jeopardised by the Coalition’s emission reduction target.\n\nThe Johnson government in the UK committed to a net zero emission target by 2050, however the Coalition refused to say whether it would match that pledge when Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor fronts the next major UN climate summit in Glasgow this November.\n\nMr Birmingham told Sky News “no such requests” have been made for a climate clause to be inserted in any future free trade deal.\n\n“We would be more than willing as always to reinforce our commitment, time and time again, to the implementation of the Paris agreement, to the efforts we are doing as a country to lead in renewable energy.\n\n“I’m confident that if we’re going to have discussions at any stage about energy transformation, about climate change matters, that Australia has a positive story to tell. “\n\nThe government has been keen to tie up a free trade agreement with both the EU and the UK following Brexit, as Australia looks to diversify trade beyond China. \n\nWhen asked whether he believed the government should follow the UK’s lead and adopt a net zero emission reduction target by 2050, the trade minister said he didn’t want to see a target adopted without a plan. \n\n“It’s a statement of fact that the Paris agreement, that Australia is a party to, that it has an ambition to see net zero achieved in the second half of this century. Different to the type of target you are talking about,” Mr Birmingham said. \n\n“There is no point in just putting a date on something and say this is when it’s going to happen if you don’t have a plan to get there.”\n\n Birmo Little point setting a Net Zero target by 2050 Just to watch countries like Australia do bugger all. Of course it will be part of the deal.

Espionage activities are 'reaching a high point' in Australia | Sky News AustraliaExecutive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Peter Jennings said the operation of foreign spies on Australian soil recently uncovered by ASIO indicates that our political independence” could be seriously compromised.\n\nOn Monday ASIO Director-General of Security Mike Burgess said a sleeper agent had been operating in Australia for years, gathering intelligence on dissidents before he was caught by the intelligence organisation and thrown out of the country.\n\n“What Mr Burgess did was lift the veil on a number of intelligence practices which will come as news to a lot of people in the broader community,” Mr Jennings told Sky News Host Chris Kenny. \n\n “These types of espionage activities have been happening in Australia for many years” but they are “reaching a high point at this moment,” he said. \n\nMr Jennings believes it to be “critically important” that Australians understand the significance of the threat that has been uncovered by ASIO and don’t think of it as “some type of James Bond fiction”.\n\nWhile the government has not publicly attributed the espionage operation to any particular nation, Mr Jennings said “China is the biggest strategic problem that we face at the moment”. \n But spy for what? Technology? Soil? Weather? Energy? Not sure what the spies look for. Why not turn the guy and have him feed back ambigious info implying other suspected spies had turned....then kick back & watch the show. No point outing him & deporting the guy. Hell just be replaced by another agent. It wouldnt be hard to make him afraid of going back to china.
