Breaking: Australia's Zac Stubblety-Cook has won gold in the men's 200m breaststroke, setting an Olympic record in the final. Follow our live coverage:

Kyle Chalmers has gone within a whisker of defending his men’s 100m freestyle crown in a heart-stopping final, trying to mow down American superstar Caeleb Dressel and going under by just 0.06. The Russian Olympic Committee’s Kliment Kolesnikov is third.Dressel just nailed the touch on the wall to win in an Olympic record of 47.02, while Chalmers clocked 47.08, which equalled his PB and was significantly faster than the time he recorded to win in Rio.

China’s Yufei Zhang has obliterated her rivals in the women’s 200m butterfly final in an Olympic record of 2:03.86, claiming gold from the American pair Regan Smith and Hali Flickinger . Zhang led by more than a second after just 50 metres and kept on going despite a late rally from Smith and Flickinger. Australia’s Brianna Throssell , starting from lane seven, was eighth.

“You can only be an underdog once. I had that luxury today. There was an experienced field but as I stepped through the heats and the semi it was quite exciting I had a little more to give. I was happy enough just to be here. This time last year we didn’t think the Olympics was going to happen.” Team Great Britain’s Luke Greenbank claims the second semi-final and Hollard has just missed the final, finishing 10th fastest. I don’t think he can be too disappointed with that though. The competition goes on elsewhere. Emma Tonegato grabbed a hat-trick as Australia opened the defence of their Olympic title in women’s rugby sevens with a ruthless 48-0 rout of Japan - their second-biggest win at Games level.

Arno Kamminga was out well under world record pace over the first 100m and did a brilliant job to hang on for silver. But 20m out this was all over as Stubblety-Cook just upped the stroke rate and went bang. Outstanding.McKeon fastest into 100m final, Campbell third From Phil Lutton poolside in Tokyo: “Another terrific swim from her this week. So McKeon, Campbell ready to go for the final, both look in really good shape, McKeon the swimmer to beat.”Cate Campbell has finished second in her 100m freestyle semi-final.
