It's been more than 200 years between drinks for monks at the Grimbergen Abbey but a tradition of beer making that dates back to the 12th century is being revived.

It's been a long time between drinks for monks at Grimbergen Abbey — more than 200 years, actually, if we're getting into specifics.

It won't be for the faint-hearted, however — a beer is expected to contain about 10.8 per cent alcohol by volume . "For us, it's important to look to the heritage, to the tradition of the fathers for brewing beer because it was always here," said Father Karel Stautemas, who will become one of five to six workers in the new brewery. The discovery of books detailing the original monks' brewing methods has become a source of inspiration for the new microbrewery.

They probably need it after being around all those God botherers

Coopers was the only beer Belgium would import when it was serious about it. then it caved in to international markets and started selling crap like Budweiser. this may encourage a return to quality rather than carbon dioxide injected crap from factories

good! we should never have lost it.

The monks should be in charge of the EU. Bless them.

Three beers for Bob: Shorten swings by Hawke's old stomping groundThere was only one place for Labor’s true believers to toast the life and legacy of Bob Hawke on Friday: the former prime minister’s famous old watering hole, the John Curtin Hotel in Carlton. BobHawkeRIP was a great politician by anyone's standard. But he was also very lucky to come to power when he did and to have a very talented team at his disposal. A Legacy of HAWKY would have to be that alcohol use is not necessary in Politics and if he stopped for the eight years perhaps it should be removed from Parliament House to ensure sober judgements as he would have done? A different P.M. was reported being UIL and failed to vote? The manliness that made everyone love him, the manliness being squelched out of boys and men at every opportunity.
