A rugby league team from the remote Indigenous community of Mornington Island is looking to secure ongoing funding to cover exorbitant costs to play games.

Assistant coach and back-rower, Soren Owens, said the team easily spent $10,000 on travelling to each game.

The team have been completely reliant on funding from sponsors and fundraising drives from the players.

If the NRLcom is truly committed to grass roots footy then here is a good example of help needed. Also, surely money could be obtaind through various grant systems to enable juniors and women to participate. Good luck in future endeavours.
