Why don’t conspiracy theorists get sued more often? A Sandy Hook denier has been successfully sued by the father of a victim. That's today on the ABC's daily news podcast TheSignal Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: Or ABC Listen:

But this week a Sandy Hook conspiracy theorist found that there were limits.

One of the authors of a book called Nobody Died at Sandy Hook, a retired university professor named James Fetzer, has been ordered to pay 450,000 USD to Leonard Pozner, whose 6-year-old son Noah was killed in the massacre.Could there be legal answers to the world's most damaging conspiracy theories? You really can say just about anything in the US.

I don't think anyone denies that Sandy Hook actually happened. But who was behind it, is the question that is still being asked. Fair question IMO.

You've got to love the names of this op. Fetzer, Pozner and Noah.

TheKouk obvs, because it costs a lot to get into court.

TheKouk And why don't Tim al zali got sued they haven't got anything right

Oh you mean like maybe sue the people who can up with the conspiracy there were WMD's in Iraq?

RadioNational why dosnt the government get sued more often

They only get sued when they are wrong and hurting people. It isn't a conspiracy theory the moment there is solid evidence to contradict the foundation logic of the theory, this applies more generally to all types of theories. More journalists need to study 'How to think 101'.

Because not all conspiracies are just theories. Project Veritas’s latest whistleblower expose into the Mainstream Media political bias is a case in point... but there are others.

Can we sue media that lies about the science of Co2?

Because people must be free to speak in a democracy. Use your free speech to counter nonsense. How would the ABC survive if we started suing every time one of its “reporters” lied..?

Conspiracy is a mental illness that uses opinions from the conspiracy theorist. Hard to sue someone who has an opinion. This will most likely get turned over on appeal because it opens dangerous doors

Extend that to media platforms that promote climate science denial, and/or actively lobby against action on climate change.

Photos of Kim Jong-un riding a horse could mean an announcement is comingNew pictures of Kim Jong-un riding a white horse through a winter landscape have fuelled speculation that the leader may be set for a major policy announcement. Yeah I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more.... Of course I’m wondering how he got up on the horse in the first place ... did they have the horse stand in a loading dock, lift him on or did he climb a ladder? Animal abuse!!!
