'Survival mode': Senior NSW Minister Andrew Constance pleads for bushfire recovery effort to remain priority over inquiries

As Prime Minister Scott Morrison prepares to take a proposal for a bushfire royal commission to cabinet, Mr Constance warned against losing focus on the monumental task of helping fire-ravaged communities across the country get back on their feet.

NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance says all tiers of government must focus on bushfire recovery, not inquiries.“The magnitude of this cannot be deflected from, in terms of the recovery need, because of inquiries and reviews,” Mr Constance told theHe said while it was “critical” for NSW to undergo an operational review of the bushfire crisis, the findings of a royal commission could be rendered meaningless if people were allowed to “fall through the cracks” in the immediate future.

“ must include the role of our changing climate in increasing the impacts of bushfires, droughts, and our ability to prepare for these extreme events,” Mr Kean said. “It goes without saying that we support any review which may help prevent such catastrophic events in the future.” NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has foreshadowed an “independent and robust” review into the fire season, but deferred questions over her support of a royal commission to the federal government.

Who is the money designated to go to ~ another dodgy LNP grifter business registered at a beach shack? This picture makes me cry She needs to resign. Sorry; I understand that this is environmental law and it’s not reasonable to have living organisms killed in this manner.

Massive food drop to help save endangered wallabies in fire-affected areasBrush-tailed Rock-wallabies have received a special delivery of carrots and sweet potatoes as part of a major post-fire wildlife recovery effort in NSW. I love a fresh crisp carrot. Great to see. Many more animals need help with food and water. Maybe they'll do food drops for Centrelink recipients next. One can only hope.
