The NSW government could find billions of dollars of extra money to spend on new transport networks if it is smarter about how it builds metros and motorways and less secretive, the Committee of Sydney says.

“If we can find a way to just drive down the costs a bit it will be possible to get even more of that benefit,” Mr Metcalf toldadding that governments should commit to spending a consistent amount of money on infrastructure to smooth out demand for skilled labour and building materials. The think tank’s review focuses on how costs can be cut across the whole life of projects, arguing that if NSW’s $113 billion infrastructure pipeline reduced costs by 10 per cent, it would generate more than $11 billion of extra capital to spend.
