Experienced explorer Dr Geoff Wilson has reached his first major milestone, the Pole of Inaccessibility, in his expedition to Dome Argus, the coldest place on earth | jennynoise

The Pole of Inaccessibility is the poetically accurate name given to the point in Antarctica that is furthest from any ocean, and a solo explorer has just become the first Australian to set foot there.

It had taken Dr Wilson, an experienced explorer from the Gold Coast, a "brutal" 23 days of trekking amid minus 30 degree temperatures and gusting winds to cross the 1665 kilometres of Antarctic ice using a kite ski."That 1665 kilometres was I would say the most brutal journey I have ever done," Dr Wilson wrote in his blog after arriving."The cold, the isolation, the sastrugi and continual difficult wind angles combined to give it the gong.

Dr Wilson is giving himself just one rest day before he embarks on the rest of his journey, culminating in his arrival at the coldest place on earth: Dome Argus.

And where is it going to go? This stuff is here to stay until the end of time. Get used to it. Complete failure of justice system these days which sees more resources and consideration for criminals than innocent people & public safety. Shame on all those responsible.

Australian Taliban hostage says SEALs tried six times to get him outTimothy Weeks — who spent almost three years being held hostage by the Taliban — describes hearing explosions and machine gun fire during one of the failed attempts to free him. It's to be hoped Mr Weeks gets all the support he needs to recover from his trauma. It will take years. Let's leave him alone to get on with it. The Aussie SAS would of only needed 1 time. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Glad he is safe, but I'd watch him carefully as he shows traces of stockholm syndrome.
