NSW residents will receive direct notifications on their smartphones alerting them to potential contact with positive COVID-19 cases via the state’s check-in app within days | Rabe9 lucy_carroll

on Wednesday revealed more than 700,000 COVID-19 case alerts have been sent to NSW residents via the state’s check-in app in the past three weeksThe feature, which launched in late September, allows people to view locations they have visited in the past four weeks, with a red “COVID-19 case alert” icon appearing if a venue listed is an exposure site.

Software developer Jim Mussared pointed to the success of examples such as the UK’s NHS COVID-19 app and New Zealand’s NZ COVID tracer app and have “better privacy controls about how data is managed and stored”. More than 93 per cent of NSW residents have received a first dose of vaccine and about 85 per cent are double-dosed.

Rabe9 lucy_carroll What! Only now? I presumed it was doing this all along

Rabe9 lucy_carroll you mean it wasn’t doing that to begin with? I’m-

Rabe9 lucy_carroll I actually got it on mine! Turned out a Coles supermarket I shopped at yesterday was an exposure site, a 'monitor for symptoms' alert. It's probably unlikely I was anywhere near the case in question.

Rabe9 lucy_carroll Within days - wow. So it's another software developer afterthought ? 🙄

Rabe9 lucy_carroll 🤣 good luck with that!

Covid19NSW Rabe9 lucy_carroll Of course it will work!

That is around 1,380 alerts per hour, every hour, for three weeks. That sounds like a lot of alerts to try to keep track of. lucy_carroll LucyCormack The yes minister double speak. Why doesn't the minister just say 'I acknowledge that the lack of push notifications is a shortcoming, it will be addreesed ASAP. In that process we will also review the option of the interface having more direct user access to alerts.' lucy_carroll LucyCormack In tech and want to help with analysis of gov tech? NSW introduces new law targeting anti-vaxxers as state records 304 new COVID-19 casesIn an effort to crack down on fake vaccine certificates, Health Minister Brad Hazzard signs off on an amendment to the health order which makes it illegal for anyone to wrongly claim they are vaccinated. The law isn't targeting 'anti vaxxers'. It's targeting fraud. NSW is far more liberal to the unvaxxed than Victoria, no matter how you want to spin it. It’s ok in NSW but dictatorship if Vic tries to do the same! The anti vaxxers will become more marginalised as laws change and rules around what they can and cannot do. The tragedy is immune comprised, the very young, and the very old will also be caught up in this, but I guess it really doesn’t matter, unless that you , or your family !
