‘Almost useless’: 700,000 COVID-19 case alerts hidden in NSW phone app | lucy_carroll LucyCormack

Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello has said the function, which alerts people if they have been to a COVID-19 exposure site

A Service NSW spokesperson said COVID-19 case alerts made it easy for customers to identify if they had attended a venue on the same day as a positive COVID-19 case. “It’s great we finally got here [with case alerts] but this could have been implemented a year ago and with better privacy controls about how data is stored, which has been done well in New Zealand and the UK.”

“Come December 1, we aim to accompany these alerts with push notifications through the Service NSW app.”

lucy_carroll LucyCormack The yes minister double speak. Why doesn't the minister just say 'I acknowledge that the lack of push notifications is a shortcoming, it will be addreesed ASAP. In that process we will also review the option of the interface having more direct user access to alerts.'

lucy_carroll LucyCormack Is the article correct, have there been 700,000 alerts sent in the past three weeks? That is around 1,380 alerts per hour, every hour, for three weeks. That sounds like a lot of alerts to try to keep track of.
