Commuters could have their wait time at level crossings in Perth's eastern suburbs slashed under a new State Government plan to remove six level crossings on the Armadale train line.Boom gates are currently down six hours per dayHowever, the plans for a new so-called 'sky rail', which would elevate the crossings, has come under fire from a local mayor who said she was disappointed in the new proposal.
The 2019-20 state budget committed $415 million to the project which would remove the Mint, Oats and Welshpool crossings, but federal funding to change the Wharf, Hamilton and Williams crossings was still being sought. Town of Victoria Park Mayor Karen Vernon said she was disappointed the Government was advocating elevated rail.
