Even some of the guards being blamed for the second wave of COVID-19 in Melbourne claim they could see the problem with working across multiple hotels. 9News

Luke Ashford, a Parks Victoria ranger and former Navy officer, was seconded to the GHHS as an authorised officer."I could not rely on the system or people around me to keep me safe," he said.Mr Ashford claimed he received no training in infection control or the use of personal protective equipment. But traveller Liliana Ratcliff, a public healthcare worker, said the standard of care was below what would have been expected in a hospital.

She staged a protest while quarantined with two of her children at the Stamford Plaza in May, complaining to the DHHS that "all of the medical staff here wear the same masks, gloves, etc, between rooms, which means they are protected … but what about us?" Ron Erasmus felt the two weeks in detention were dehumanising, claiming he had to explain his father's death to 14 different support staff at the Stamford Plaza, on 14 different days. And he claimed he had been left to carry his wife Sue back to their room on his own, after she fractured her foot during a fresh air break.

'Unreasonable demands': Health staff ignored suicide threat in hotel quarantine, inquiry toldHealth officials lost track of returned travellers staying in Melbourne's hotel quarantine scheme and threats of suicide were dismissed, according to a nurse giving evidence at an inquiry into the botched program. I'm sick of the people in this story harping on about mask usage. If people recall, the unnamed nurse was shown a training document from the Australian government which clearly showed masks won't stop the spread of the virus. Get off the hind-sight bandwagon. They didn't know.
