A fresh analysis of koala behaviour in the wild has uncovered a previously unknown trait of the native marsupial that could prove vital.

Previously it was thought koalas get most of the water they need from the eucalyptus leaves that form the bulk of their diet.

Koalas have famously been seen drinking from water bottles held by firefighters and cyclists, but this is considered rare and something koalas only engage in during extreme situations such as bushfires and prolonged drought. But a new analysis of koala behaviour in national parks in Victoria and New South Wales have shown another way the marsupials hydrate: by licking the trunks of trees.

'This is the storm': Inside the call centre dealing with Australia's abusive men - ABC NewsWith coronavirus lockdowns shaping patterns of domestic abuse behind closed doors, the Men's Referral Service has seen an increase in calls from men seeking help with their own violent behaviour. And then even if taken seriously there is no-one to refer them to anyway Feminism means GenderBias not GenderEquality
