Widespread coral bleaching is underway in Tahiti and Moorea, despite no El Nino event this year.

Animals can still use a bleached coral or anemone for shelter, but once the coral dies they have to find somewhere else to live or hide.Other research groups in the region have similarly reported bleaching on both sides of Tahiti, as water temperatures remain unusually high for this time of year.

Coral births on the Great Barrier Reef crashed last year as a direct result of back-to-back bleaching events, a new study has found. "When I first got in the water I was completely disoriented. It was a carpet of white," Dr Thurber said. If there is enough time for recovery between bleaching events — which increasingly there isn't — the corals that bounce back will be weedier,, according to coral reef scientist Terry Hughes from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies.

As a society we punish anti Vaxers for denying the science buy removing their childcare subsides and disallowing their children from attending care. At what point do we start to institutionally punish those that deny the science on climate change because it endangers others too?

One day, the people who believed the Petrochemical Cartels' denier propaganda, will blame everyone else for not making them understand. Even then, it's likely most of the deniers will not be able to face the truth, so entrenched in the illusions, they'll see anything but truth.
