Tech giants have joined 17 signatory countries, including Australia, in a pledge to insulate the internet by obliterating online terrorist and violent extremist content.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and French President Emmanuel Macron announced the Christchurch Call to Action on Wednesday night in Paris among an international gathering. The United States has refused to sign the accord, citing concerns for freedom on expression and the media. The move to pacify the internet comes after the attacks on two Christchurch mosques, which took place on March 15.
