The eight-hour sleep myth? I tried our 'default' way and this is what I learntStrong evidence suggests that, pre-industrial revolution, humans used to sleep in two blocks, with periods of meditative wakefulness in between. If there was ever a golden opportunity to see if biphasic sleep works, it’s now. That's how I sleep. Luckily, I love to cook in the middle of the night, and I write. This is exactly how I sleep. Been doing it for a long time and I haven't been able to change it. Read Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. Says this happened for a while but we are programmed by evolution to have a long sleep at night and a short one in the early afternoon (siesta). Lots more about sleep in an interesting book.

A two hour siesta after lunch and six hour sleep overnight is a good balance for me. Not possible if you are a 9 to 5 worker who travels to and from work.
