JobMaker scheme 'leaving older Australians behind' | Sky News AustraliaOpposition Leader Anthony Albanese has criticised the federal government’s JobMaker plan for only incentivising employers to hire Australians under the age of 35, claiming older workers are “being left behind”. \n\nLabor will be pressured to pass the wage subsidy scheme – which will see employers receive between $100 and $200 a week for hiring a worker between 16 and 35 years of age – when parliament resumes today. \n\nMr Albanese told Sky News Labor’s primary issue with the scheme “isn’t that younger people are being given support, it’s the 928,000 people who get no support”. \n\nHe said a common aspect of a recession was “it was often older workers who lose their jobs and some of them never work again”.\n \n“What we need to do is make sure out of this recession that people aren’t left behind,” he said. \n\n“Too many people have been left behind during the pandemic by being left out of wage subsidies. \n\n“We shouldn’t leave people out of the recovery.” \n\n\n AlboMP So true. Hubby is 54 and unemployed for the first time in his life - applying for everything, can’t get a job. This is so so so stressful. Anyone need a good worker?
