After the jury was dismissed, Mr Richter and Pell briefly held hands as the cardinal’s supporters and legal team gathered around the dock to console him. Mr Richter said he did not recall the incident. Mr Richter came under intense pressure during the Cardinal’s pre-sentence plea hearing after referring to the abuse of one of the choir boys as “vanilla sexual penetration”.It was announced last week that Sydney-based barrister Bret Walker SC would take the lead in the appeal case but that the Cardinal’s high-powered legal team would otherwise remain unchanged.
On Tuesday, Mr Richter said while he tended not to participate in appeals for cases that he had lost, in this case, he was also too angry.

Robert Richter is a bit sooky about the Pell GUILTY verdict and withdrawing from the defence team for the Pell appeal. He is supposed to operate at the highest levels of professionalism and objectivity in the legal world, right? Surely his QC status should be reconsidered?

As a victim of childhood sexual abuse & being from a legal family I’ve never criticised Richter but enough! It isn’t the place of defence counsel to comment publicly on verdicts! He should follow Mr Burnside into a political career to find more of the attention he seems to crave!

So let's get this clear, Pell's appeal isn't questioning if he is guilty it's actually an appeal to get the verdict overturned on a technicality.
