After the jury was dismissed, Mr Richter and Pell briefly held hands as the cardinal’s supporters and legal team gathered around the dock to console him. Mr Richter said he did not recall the incident. Mr Richter came under intense pressure during the Cardinal’s pre-sentence plea hearing after referring to the abuse of one of the choir boys as “vanilla sexual penetration”.It was announced last week that Sydney-based barrister Bret Walker SC would take the lead in the appeal case but that the Cardinal’s high-powered legal team would otherwise remain unchanged.
On Tuesday, Mr Richter said while he tended not to participate in appeals for cases that he had lost, in this case, he was also too angry.

bluedpn Richter is making this play to the appellate court as though Pell is a respectable member of society wronged & defamed. No. Pell is like many other clerics. He is a reputable member of the Catholic Church outed as a sexual abuser & predator of children. There is a difference.
The only thing perverse is this low act of a judge. Pauline Hanson would have done a better job than this donkey ears judge and the ass of a law we have here.

How does this conduct serve the course of justice? Seems a breach of the conduct rules to me.
Watching 4corners what I find is reprehensible were Pell's responses ... it was all about him, no empathy, no compassion ... how dare anyone suggest that of me! No reflection, if he was innocent and practicing catholic beliefs ...why could two kids think that way of me?
Considering the appeal has not been heard etc surely he should not be saying such things ! ?

I pondered ‘scapegoat’ for a while after the conviction, until I saw 4Corners last evening; listening to the pompous, arrogant and defensive language from Pell, then the open, honest painful stories from ‘victims’ and the sadness on their faces, I’m not pondering now.
Again, why is this being made public it might influence the appeal.

I suspect Mr Richter is either a member of the IPA or chooses friends from within its ranks. Like Pell himself, Abbott and over 20 Coalition mps. IPA is a political lobby group started by Murdochs father. Odd for a churchman? (they did the fundraising to pay his legal fees)

Les Tyack appeared a very credible witness to George Pell unnecessarily exposing himself to minors. Les had no apparent reason to lie.

Robert Richter QC, a highly professional Barrister, has acted in a most professional manner. He is not the only individual who believes that the jury’s verdict was perverse.
For someone as experienced as him to say that, you'd have to think the chances of winning an appeal are pretty good.
You know what's perverse an innocent man won't take the stand and Pell is defended by some of the countries best QCs and SCs remember Luke 18.1-8 these children are finally getting justice
