Albanese vows to restore ‘respect and trust’ in the Labor Party | Sky News AustraliaOpposition Leader Anthony Albanese has responded to the Labor Party’s 2019 federal election review outlining the party's direction moving forward.\n\nSpeaking to the National Press Club, Mr Albanese acknowledged the review was a “thorough, honest - and for Labor people - sometimes uncomfortable read”.\n\nHe assured those who voted for Labor, and those who didn’t, that his party is “listening to them” following the shock loss on May 18.\n\n“The message to us is that too many people were confused or even frightened by our policies or didn’t trust us to implement them,” he said.\n\n“We failed to present a clear and concise narrative that explained an optimistic sense of what our country could become.”\n\nThe Labor leader said he was “going to change that”.\n\n“I am going to change the culture of our party and ensure we are worthy of the people’s respect and trust.”\n\nHe said without respect and trust, the party “can’t achieve anything and won’t deserve to”.\n\n“Due to the lack of a coherent narrative, the confusion caused by too many policies, the raising of fear campaigns - some based on outright lies - the Australian people didn’t have the confidence to elect Labor. It’s all outlined in the review document,” he said.\n\nHe acknowledged there was “resentment” towards some of the 2019 election policies, singling out the party's franking credits policy as one that opened up a “scare campaign”.\n\nThe opposition leader then announced the party’s policies will be built around five themes of a strong economy that works for people, a fair Australia where no one is left behind, productivity-boosting infrastructure, climate change action recognising opportunity as well as threat, and national security that stands up for national interests in a globalised world.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia AlboMP AustralianLabor 🤪🤪 AlboMP AustralianLabor Forward to the World October as he used to chant in unison with all the bone heads from the Steering Committee in 1986.
