More than 200 farmers attended a public forum in Mildura yesterday hosted by the ACCC to hear from local irrigators about their concerns with water allocations as they battle the drought.

Water prices in the region have increased from a long-term average of $135 per megalitre to nearly $1000. Third generation citrus grower and Sunraysia Citrus Growers Chairman Kevin Cock was at the meeting, and said it was “very emotional”.

“It was pretty hard to stick to the script because people are angry, they’re getting a bit exhausted,” he said. “It’s the quiet ones that really worry you – they’re a bit brittle because they’ve heard it all before.” Image: News Corp Australia

Royal commission into veteran suicide 'should have solutions ready' | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian’s Political Editor Andrew Clennell says a royal commission into veteran suicide should have 'solutions ready' after mothers of veterans who took their own lives called for an inquiry during a meeting with Scott Morrison on Wednesday.\n\nThe mothers, three of whom lost their sons this year, shared their stories at The Daily Telegraph’s Save Our Heroes Summit after meeting the prime minister. \n\n“You get these royal commissions, they go for months, they themselves cost tens of millions [of dollars] at times, and you don’t always get the result you want,” Mr Clennell said. \n\nThe Courier-Mail’s National Political Editor Renee Viellaris said the prime minister seems “very serious about doing some things on veterans affairs”. \n\n“If parents give their kids to their country, to fight for the country, then when they come home we need to look after them,” Ms Viellaris said.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia What they need is better vetting of soldiers who join up, then intensive training to prepare for the battlefield to make them aware of what they will find. Too late once they arrive at the battlefield unprepared. Better still stay out of foreign wars. Still don't understand why we have to send our nation's sons to fight Islamic wars. They've been at it for 1400 years, killing each other and their women. We can't stop it.

Tensions rise within Labor ranks ahead of ALP election loss review | Sky News AustraliaBill Shorten loyalists have promised public retaliation if Labor's election loss review uses the former party leader as a scapegoat.\n\nThe report - which is likely to stoke tensions within the party's factions - is being handed to ALP national executive on Thursday and is expected to deliver a scathing assessment of the party's campaign. \n\nVictorian Right members met on Wednesday night fearing the report could push too much blame on to Mr Shorten for the party's loss at the May federal election. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia How many loyalists are there? 😂😂 Imagine elected officials actually being dim enough to unashamedly be 'Bill Shorten loyalists'. He trailed as preferred PM his entire reign and was consistently unpopular, yet for some reason we're to never mention that. The dude was a dud. Plain and simple. The faster Labor accept that, the sooner they can try to repair the damage he created.
