At least 100 managers needed for frontline airport roles as post-lockdown problems plague airline

Qantas is hoping to address the problems by scheduling fewer flights in the next month and hiring more staff.Sign up to receive an email with the top stories from Guardian Australia every morning

The airline’s domestic and international chief executive, Andrew David, acknowledged that Qantas had been plagued by problems as it recovered from the Covid-19 lockdown period. A spokesperson said the airline was committed to improving its services: “We’ve been clear that our operational performance has not been meeting our customers’ expectations or the standards that we expect of ourselves – and that we’ve been pulling out all stops to improve our performance.

“As we have done in the past during busy periods, around 200 head office staff have helped at airports during peak travel periods since Easter. “While we manage the impacts of a record flu season and ongoing COVID cases coupled with the tightest labour market in decades, we’re continuing that contingency planning across our airport operations for the next three months.”

Qantas Spirit of scumbags. Remove the kangaroo and put a pig on it.

Genuinely thought this was a Betoota headline. Wtf

There are literally former baggage handlers that Qantas laid off and refuse to bring back

Lose the overseas sub-contractor and rehire the Aussie staff.

..or they could just rehire the baggage handlers they had before they were illegally sacked…

Qantas Joyce took billions from taxpayers, in return call centre outsourced out of Australia, plane maintenance outsourced out of Australia, ground staff outsourced to a private company (possibly fully or partly owned outside Australia). How is this till our national career?

How about Qantas asks trained baggage handlers to do it?

I see the outsourcing by Qantas of the baggage handling function is going swimmingly.

I look forward to seeing Alan Joyce manhandling baggage qantasfail

Didn't they receive $2B in wage subsidies from the taxpayers via the Govt?

Get Joyce on to earn some of his $24 Million salary. Such an epic waste of money for that clown
