Putting ice on injuries could be doing more damage than good | liammannix

If you've rolled an ankle, you know what comes next: sickening, nauseating pain. And then a big bag of frozen peas.

Ice, plus a compression sock, rest and sticking your leg on a stack of pillows, is the standard treatment for strains, sprains and bruises, prescribed by physios and paramedics, and used by weekend warriors and elite athletes alike. That mystifies injury researchers. They have known for a long time that there is almost no evidence that ice helps you get better faster. Some now suspect an ice pack may actually slow down the body’s own natural healing mechanisms and delay recovery. And compression and elevation for ankle injures have almost never been tested to see if they help.

It stinks, it's not polite: Call to ban food and drinks on Melbourne public transportSpilt coffee, stale McDonald's chips and a half-eaten dim sim are among the delights that might greet Melbourne commuters on their tram or train ride home on a Saturday night. But that could all change, if one Melbourne city councillor gets his way. Nothing smells worse than another person's dimsim. Nothing. Not a fan of apple crunching either just quietly.. I think drinking water should be allowed We should allow more bicycles on trains. After all, what is the point of a bicycle if you have to ride it when you could take up space on busy trains?
