Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time.Prime Minister Scott Morrison has repeated his claim that Australia Post boss Christine Holgate was instructed to stand aside over the Cartier watches scandal, amid a developing legal standoff between the board and its chief executive.

Ms Holgate's lawyers insist she had not been legally stood down as the board failed to follow proper processes. Mr Morrison doubled down on his comments in Parliament last week when, during a fiery question time, he declared Ms Holgate "has been instructed to stand aside, if she doesn’t wish to do that, she can go".

Christine Holgate giving evidence about the purchase of four Cartier watches, worth $19,950 in total, at a Senate estimates hearing last week."That was my statement and I stand by it," Mr Morrison said on 2GB radio on Friday.Mr Morrison said it was his "understanding" that she had been asked to stand aside, but demurred when asked who delivered the instruction for her to do so, saying: "I'll leave that to the Australia Post board to respond to.

"What has happened is she's been asked to stand aside, is my understanding, while an investigation takes place and that's what is occurring in a number of other parts of the government," Mr Morrison said.

LisaVisentin I begin to understand why incompetent ministers stay in their jobs. Their boss doesn’t understand the procedure to follow to properly sack them.

RandaltsRandal LisaVisentin Physician heal thyself scumbag

LisaVisentin Morrison is not in charge...

LisaVisentin Angus next?

LisaVisentin Really? $20K? We're still going on about that when there's a massive multi million dollar elephant sitting in the room plain as day, but for Scotty's sake, let's talk about the weasel getting tough on watches

LisaVisentin Didnt the board tell the CEO to buy gifts?

LisaVisentin She’s lawyered up & coming after you, Scooter. Best pray extra hard & speak in louder tongues on Sunday.

LisaVisentin So the gold standard for corporate malfeasance is a $7000 Cartier watch, probably higher if you're a male CEO and higher still if you're a liberal mate. Corporate Aus better watch out..... I think multi-million dollar CEO bonuses paid from JobKeeper much worse but that's just me.

LisaVisentin So what...just another lie from theliarfromtheshire

LisaVisentin Love how news keeps having to remind us Scott Morrison is prime minister. He’s absent so much from his job we forget.

LisaVisentin Legal eagles circling

LisaVisentin Why wasn’t the male dominated Board stood a side Morrison really doesn’t like women

LisaVisentin In parliament- then it’s bs.

LisaVisentin 'by the measure you measure it will be measured to you ..' Morrison is cactus I'd say..

LisaVisentin Why was he sacked twice?

LisaVisentin One of them is telling lies. It's that simple.

LisaVisentin Only the Board should have the right to sack an acting CEO. ScottMorrisonMP You have no right to intervene or have say other than your voting right that grants you one vote like any other Australian. Leave the Australian Businesses alone. Focus on your on your own rorts. auspol

Anticipating reactions to political attacks can be a tricky businessAnticipating reactions to political attacks can be a tricky business as Australia Post's Christine Holgate, Scott Morrison and Daniel Andrews discovered this week, writes Michelle Grattan. I don't agree the PM trashed Ms Holgate. These incentives are not acceptable for a service that is getting worse. It is now takes over 10 days to deliver letters compared to 3 to 5 days. The PM is questioning these gifts as are most Australians. 👍 I do think the attack on Holgate was disgraceful. Time scottyfromarketing concentrated on putting his own house in order & begin to put an end to the rorting we have witnessed in the last few years!
