Regional cyclists are calling for safer riding routes after the death of two "loved and respected" cyclists from South Australia's Mid North in space of seven years.Seven cyclists have died on South Australian roads this yearPort Pirie Cycling Club member John Dennis died after being struck by a ute at Abattoirs Road in Port Pirie South on October 17.
After Mr Dennis's death in October, Port Pirie Cycling Club met with Bicycle SA, Port Pirie Regional Council and state Minister for Regional Roads Geoff Brock to voice their concerns about safety for cyclists on the region's roads.Port Pirie Cycling Club president Brenton Hoare said cyclists wanted to be able to ride on the road without their friends and families worrying about their safety.
Mr Hoare said the club was not just about riding, "it's companionship, friendship and great for mental health".
