Police investigate whether two dumped cars in Melbourne's eastern suburbs are linked to the death of a man after an overnight shooting on the EastLink tollway at Donvale.

A man has been found dead inside a vehicle at the scene of a shooting on a tollway in Melbourne's east this morning.Two vehicles dumped at separate locations nearby may be linked to the shootingEmergency services were called to reports a vehicle had spun out and was blocking inbound lanes on the EastLink at Donvale at about 2:20am.

Police said the man was found dead and was the only person inside the vehicle, but the exact circumstances of his death were not clear.Investigators closed the EastLink to city-bound traffic between the Maroondah Highway and Springvale Road as they investigated the death. In a statement, police said they were investigating whether two abandoned vehicles in the nearby suburbs of Mooroolbark and Bayswater were linked to the shooting.
