An airstrip at one of Queensland's most remote roadhouses has officially opened after a local family donated $150,000 to have it upgraded.

The Burke and Wills Roadhouse is a vital halfway point between towns in outback Queensland

Residents in the area say the Flying Doctors have provided an essential service to them over the years Royal Flying Doctor Service manager Anthony Hooper said having an all weather airstrip in such a central location was important for the area.
