A parliamentary inquiry into the persisting sports rorts saga will resume this morning, as the Prime Minister faces fresh scrutiny over the role his office played in approving grants.

Documents released to the inquiry showed 136 emails were sent between the offices of Scott Morrison and then-Sports Minister Bridget McKenzie. The documents were reportedly colour-coded showing the distribution of grants by electorate and political party. The auditor-general found the scheme was biased in targeting seats the party wanted to win.

Labor leader Anthony Albanese ramped up his attack on Wednesday, accusing the prime minister of lying about his level of involvement in the scheme. “The prime minister claimed his only involvement was to pass along information so why has the audit office told the Senate today that there were 136 emails going back and forth between the prime minister’s office and Bridget Mckenzie’s office?” he said.
