The UK and US are heading for recession and China is facing a sharp economic slowdown that will have ramifications for Australia’s economy, Treasurer Jim Chalmers warns | rachelclun

The UK and US are heading for recession and China is facing a sharp economic slowdown that will have ramifications for Australia’s economy and shape next week’s budget, Treasurer Jim Chalmers warns.

“The budget will confirm the stark deterioration in the outlook for global growth and in several major economies, with some at risk of falling into recession,” he said. Growth in China has been downgraded from 5.25 per cent to 4.5 per cent for 2023, and globally the GDP forecast for next year has dropped a percentage point to 2.75 per cent.

Inflation in Australia is expected to peak at 7.75 per cent by Christmas, easing to 4.25 per cent by the end of 2023.

rachelclun No confidence in the Labor Party to guide the Australian economy through a global financial crisis……

rachelclun Treasurer Jim Chalmers needs to stop looking for excuses for future failures. He should own the portfolio and do something positive and stop focussing on the negative. It is starting to make him look weak and incompetent.

rachelclun

rachelclun As long as the money is going to people who need it and not the people who will put it in their offshore bank accounts, spending is good for the economy. Our current government is doing a great job.

rachelclun Charmers-Albanese vs. Frydenberg-Morrison. I thank the heavens the LNP is dead. Yes, tough times are ahead, but good to have strong captains (who can also do more than one thing at a time) at the helm.

rachelclun Yeah but don't expect any cuts. We are talking about Labor and their mates have to get a taste.

rachelclun Maybe the world is waking up to China, anything made there lasts about 3 days longer than the warranty period

rachelclun Has this guy ever smiled? Once?

rachelclun Always “slowing down” but never in a recession. Strange that.

rachelclun selling stuff to china will have to be a university course

Albanese is stuck in a ‘spending bubble’Treasurer Jim Chalmers needs to “pull his boss aside” and tell him to stop writing cheques, says Sky News host Chris Smith says. “The PM seems way off track, almost in his own little spending bubble. Which of course, is Labor's classic DNA,” Mr Smith said. “The government knows that being so early in their term it can get away with upsetting sectors of the community by cutting plenty of fat. “Jim Chalmers seems to be a conservative treasurer in a Labor government. “If what we're hearing is right, that he'll cut out the waste, but grow the economy too, especially with big ticket numbers, he'll gain a lot of cred out of his first budget.” Chris smith! Hahahahahahahahaha NewsCorpse should just look within when making up bullshit 🙄 Have CryNews been getting calls from the LNPCrimeFamily and LNPCorruptionParty who are advocating for Rinehardt and Gerry Harvey complaining about kickbacks having dried up🙄 You should ‘pull your boss aside’ and tell him to stop making you post this nonsense.

Commodity falls dash surplus hopes: ChalmersAustralia is not expected to return to surplus anytime within the next four years as commodity prices are level off from their recent highs, Jim Chalmers says. I think you need to clarify what 'Australia returning to Surplus' actually means, as you'll find most people assume that it means that Australia has paid off all their debt. What utter crap. There’s a structural deficit that can easily be fixed. It just requires the Lab government to be the first Government in 25 years to act in our sovereign interest, NOT for sovereign wealth looters, population ponzi parasites & global cartels. Work for us pls!

Why the RBA shouldn’t listen to Jim CramerIgnoring the impact of higher labour costs on services has wrong-footed investors ahead of the latest inflation surprise in the US. No one needs to listen to Cramer. I have not seeing an article on the cost of electricity. C&I customers that are coming off the electricity contract at rate of 8-10 $C kWh are going into 25-30$C kWh. Some of them are getting over 400% increase on the electricity costs. Increasing cash rates won't solve that

Labor could u-turn on election promisesSome of Labor’s election promises may be facing the chopping block, as an intensive budget waste audit gets underway. The waste audit will be going through grants and commitments line by line, in order to make space in what Treasurer Jim Chalmers is calling a “bread and butter budget”. Infrastructure Minister Catherine King has acknowledged some programs will be dumped, telling ABC’s Insiders that “some of the things that the previous government funded we’ll fund, some of them we won’t”. The Nationals have indicated they would be opposed to any cuts to regional grants. Top of the list & biggest LNP rort 240 billion in high income tax cuts to every politician, CEO's earning millions & high incomes. A Scott Morrison legacy gift to the top 10% of income earners & AlboMP will implement ScoMo's signature policy cutting funds from essential services Apparently the AustralianLabor govt Australians elected we thought would invest in life changing essential services will actually cut services to fund LNP 240 billion high income tax cuts. A lot of ‘mixed messages’ out there ahead of federal budgetThe Australian’s Graham Lloyd says it is fair to say there are “a lot of mixed messages out there” ahead of the October federal budget. “Jim Chalmers has been overseas with some of the world's financial leaders, and he is painting a pretty grim picture, on board with the advice that the best response is a responsible budget,” Mr Lloyd told Sky News Australia. “Back home, Anthony Albanese - he is extending parental leave, staying committed to spending things that realistically were pledged during the election. “At some point, those things collide.”
