A 31-year-old father in the USA has been removed from the heart transplant list at a Boston hospital because he is refusing to get the Covid-19 vaccine, his family said.

His father, David Ferguson, said his son — who is fighting for his life in the hospital and is in desperate need of the transplant — doesn’t believe in the Covid-19 vaccine. “It’s kind of against his basic principles, he doesn’t believe in it. It’s a policy they are enforcing and so because he won’t get the shot, they took him off the list of a heart transplant,” David told the outlet.

Ferguson has two children and is expecting a third with his partner Heather, according to a GoFundMe page set up for him.“Our Mass General Brigham healthcare system requires several CDC-recommended vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine, and lifestyle behaviours for transplant candidates to create both the best chance for a successful operation and to optimise the patient’s survival after transplantation, given that their immune system is drastically suppressed

What ever happened to medical for all. You start playing god and you could be next. No medical for smokers, drinkers or obese people it never ends. Transplant donations are EXTREMELY precious and so if you are in a high risk category it can’t be gambled during Covid. Tough call for sure but every transplant is closely scrutinised to ensure best possible outcomes. The Drs know what they are doing.

Yip the Rona created another Species of Anal pandemic muppets!! That’s what happens when you import from China! Not surprising, most people, especially on social media have fake hearts anyhow, with their fake friends and fake likes etc...as like your average church goer debited each week in the name of the Lord on sacred ground...he has the right to choose as like PM said previously Aust.! What a ridiculous man, okay to take another person's organs but not a vaccination. So logical, not.

Even if you were opposed, wouldn’t you just get it so you could live for your family? There’s a reason he’s being asked to get it. Drs are not trying to control u, they just understand the science and see the proof everyday. Choices have repercussions…. This is a perversion of medical ethics.A gross discrimination.

Not many hearts around because the vaccine is destroying them. So he should. Transplant units don't like to waste organs. He will get the vax if he wants the heart or it should go to someone more deserving. AntiVaxxersAreMorons Fair call. Brilliant and by the way get out of hospital and let nature take its course, wasting a bed.

Disbelief in medicine while asking medicine to save your life? 🙄 He does not believe in vaccine but believe in every scientific logic to make organ transplant possible That is disgusting. Bureaucracy playing God. The world has gone to shit. Darwinism He would rather die than have a meagrebchance of a side effect (whilst being in hospital with specialist heart care and monitoring). To be honest, this is a new level of stupid.

Get it ? Ridiculous Well I guess he’s won’t make it then. His choice. Darwin Award Essentially this man is being sentenced to death by the heath system for not getting vaccinated against Covid. The vaccine is a trial and has failed. Despicable - stop with the coercion.

Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which is a Harvard teaching facility, said research had shown transplant recipients were at a much higher risk of dying from Covid compared to non-transplant patients. “We do everything we can to ensure that a patient who receives a transplanted organ has the greatest chance of survival,” a spokesman told The Post.5 per cent have received their booster shot. “Our Mass General Brigham healthcare system requires several CDC-recommended vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine, and lifestyle behaviours for transplant candidates to create both the best chance for a successful operation and to optimise the patient’s survival after transplantation, given that their immune system is drastically suppressed “Patients are not active on the waitlist without this. (Bloomberg) However, there are fears smaller pharmacies will not be able to meet demand.” The hospital’s policy requiring recipients to have the Covid-19 shot is in line with many other transplant programs across the US, the spokesman added..

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends that immunocompromised people, which includes organ transplant recipients, be vaccinated because they are especially vulnerable to Covid. The hospital denied that a candidate could be “first on the list” for a transplant because there are varying levels of priority for allocation of organs. NSW school students will be tested twice a week once they return to the classrooms. “But in DJs case he can NOT afford for his heart to swell any more than it already is right now. He is at extremely high risk of sudden death if it does,” the page said. “We have had many conversations with the doctors, who confirmed that his heart COULD swell and go into severe crisis but they can’t guarantee anything and it’s a choice we will have to make if he wants to be listed. Colorado woman Leilani Lutali was removed from the kidney transplant list in October because she — and her donor — hadn’t been vaccinated. UCHealth, which operates hospitals and urgent care facilities throughout Colorado, said the Covid vaccine was one of several measures patients needed to take to give the organ the best chance of not being rejected.

The health system said the driving force behind its vaccine policy was studies showing transplant patients are more likely to die if they contract Covid-19. The mortality rate for transplant patients who get Covid is more than 20 per cent, according to UCHealth. “An organ transplant is a unique surgery that leads to a lifetime of specialised management to ensure an organ is not rejected, which can lead to serious complications, the need for a subsequent transplant surgery, or even death,” UCHealth told The Post at the time. “Physicians must consider the short- and long-term health risks for patients as they consider whether to recommend an organ transplant.” Ohio man Mike Ganin, who is vaccinated against Covid, was denied a kidney transplant last October because his donor hadn’t received her shot.

“I don’t want to get the vaccine. I’ve got reasons — medical, religious, and also freedom,” the donor, Sue George, told WKYC. This story appeared in the and has been reproduced with permission More related stories .
