One in 10 walk out of emergency before finishing treatment | marywardy

Emergency doctors and nurses are alarmed by a huge increase in people walking out of NSW’s hospitals without finishing treatment, as ambulance delays and beds filled with people unable to be discharged leave sick patients facing record waiting times.

Once within the hospital, patients were again faced with the longest wait times on record: while emergency department attendances fell short of the record high seen in 2021, more than a third were not seen on time. “It is a marker of distress in their health system,” she said, adding little was known about these people once they left.

NSW Ambulance received 375,215 calls between April and June, just shy of the highest-ever number recorded the previous quarter. Half of emergency patients waited more than 16 minutes for an ambulance, the longest time since reporting started in 2010.paramedics’ unions about increased “ramping” outside of emergency departments

“The public health system takes its role very seriously in the care for all community. We are a safety net for a lot of people,” Pearce told the hearing, adding the department was working with the federal government to address the issue.

Sky News New Zealand Bureau Chief Jessica Maggio says Ms Ardern left Wellington around 6am local time and is expected to arrive in London on Thursday morning. “It is quite early for her to have already departed for the service, but no doubt she’ll be wanting to avoid any potential disruptions or delays – it will get busier and busier as they lead up to the service in the UK,' she said.
