Tokyo Olympics Day 6 updates, news, results

Laetisha Scanlan has missed out on a medal in the women's trap shooting by the slimmest of margins.

The final worked in a elimination system, where after 25 shots, the lowest-scoring competitor was knocked out, with that process repeating every five shots until there were two remaining. After fellow Australian Penny Smith and Italy's Silvana Stanco were knocked out in sixth and fifth, Scanlan had a slender lead for third over San Marino's Alessandra Perilli.

The 31-year-old, who finished fifth in Rio, was left with the simplest of equations on her 35th shot: hit this target and you're an Olympic medallist. Sadly she missed, and was eliminated on countback after finishing on equal points with Perilli, who had qualified with a higher score.Slovakia's Zuzana Rehak-Stefecekova took home the gold, with American Kayle Browning in second.
