Fewer women are being sentenced for crimes, but those who are sentenced will more likely find themselves in jail.

The number of Queensland women receiving a prison sentence has more than tripled since 2005-2006, jumping from 485 cases to more than 2100 over 13 years.

The most common offences for which women received a prison sentence included stealing , breach of bail , possession of dangerous drugs , fraud and assaults occasioning bodily harm . Boneta-Marie Mabo, pictured with her artworks, has called for more to be done to address the disproportionate incarceration of First Nations women and girls.

A Queensland Greens push to raise the criminal age from 10 to 14 was voted down in the state’s parliament on Tuesday night, with Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman stating more work needed to be done before the measure could be taken responsibly. The organisation helps women and girls get bail, organises legal representation and supports them in the community.

Murder of two women in Sydney shows there are 'no rules in organised crime,' ex-detective saysA former detective says Sydney's underworld has no unwritten laws about not harming females and the double murder of two women in Revesby sends a clear message. They weren’t innocent bystanders. They knew. How come the deceased hairdresser was the sole provider for her family in Lebanon? Her sister seems able to organise a 'go fund me'site, yet left the burden of her family to her hairdresser sister. So there are meant to be rules for crime now? Isn’t that why they chose crime? To hell with the system? Sounds like cops want a hand out too.
